Tanetomi was a vassal of the [[Hojo clan|Hôjô family]] and held [[Sakura castle]]. He lost some of his holdings to [[Satomi clan]] retainer [[Masaki Tokishige]] but was later able to regain them. His son was [[Chiba Kunitane]].
