Hirano Shôsuke was a notable commander of Satsuma forces in the [[1877]] [[Satsuma Rebellion]].
Hirano held the rank of Major (''konoe rikugun shôsa'') in the [[Imperial Japanese Army]] before resigning from that position. He then oversaw a cultivation project at [[Yoshino]] before returning to [[Kagoshima]].
He died on 1877/9/24 in the [[battle of Shiroyama]] alongside his eldest brother [[Goda Shichiro|Gôda Shichirô]], second older brother [[Goda Hachibei|Gôda Hachibei]], and nephew (son of Shichirô) [[Goda Yoshinosuke|Gôda Yoshinosuke]]. Shôsuke's younger brother [[Goda Inosuke|Gôda Inosuke]] died in the [[battle of Nobeoka]].
