  • Japanese: 松島 (matsushima)

Matsushima is a famous tea jar (chatsubo) originally from China, which was in the collection of the Ashikaga shoguns before passing through the hands of Miyoshi Masanaga, Takeno Jôô, and Jôô’s son-in-law Imai Sôkyû, who gave it as a gift to Oda Nobunaga along with another eggplant-shaped tea caddy; the latter object, which has come to be known as Jôô Nasu, was also previously in the Ashikaga collection.
