Takanabe han was a 27,000 koku domain ruled by the Akizuki clan and based at Takanabe castle in Hyûga province. The domain also included a small separated area (tobichi) called Fukushima, at Kushima (also in Hyûga).

The Akizuki were assigned to the Yanagi-no-ma in Edo castle.

Akizuki Tanemi was the 6th lord of Takanabe. He was succeeded by his eldest son, Akizuki Taneshige, while his second son was adopted into the Uesugi clan in 1760, and went on to become Uesugi Harunori.
