- Died: 92 CE
Ban Gu was the author of the Book of Han (C: Hànshū), which set the precedent for Chinese dynastic histories. Written in the early part of the Later Han, it emulates the approach of Sima Qian's Shiji ("Historical Record"), applying that structure to describe just the history of the Former Han Dynasty.
Ban was the brother of Ban Zhao, author of the Admonitions for Women.
