Kuninaka Kimimaro was a prominent Buddhist sculptor of the 8th century; he is particularly known for having overseen the construction of a number of sculptures for Tôdai-ji, made at the time of that temple's founding.
He was the son of an immigrant from Paekche (Korea) who relocated to Japan in 669.
