The Kakizaki of [[Echigo province]] claimed descent from [[Nitta Yoshisada]]. The descendants of one of Yoshisada's sons, [[Nitta Yoshimune]], established themselves at Kakizaki in Echigo. In the early 16th Century, the Kakizaki supported the [[Jojo clan]] when they clashed with [[Nagao Tamekage]] but came to serve the latter's son, Kagetora ([[Uesugi Kenshin]]). They remained in [[Uesugi clan|Uesugi]] service into the [[Edo Period]].
