Togo Ainoshin

Jump to navigationJump to searchTôgô Ainoshin was one of a group of nineteen young men from Satsuma han who snuck out of the country in 1865 in order to study in Europe.
Twenty-three years old when he left Japan, Tôgô took on the name Iwaya Toranosuke as part of the deception necessary to sneak out of the country. While in Europe, he studied naval military science in particular. He returned to Japan in 1866/8, but fell ill and died just two years later.
