  • Japanese: 玉里邸 (Tamazato tei)

The Tamazato mansion was a secondary residence in Kagoshima used by several prominent members of the Shimazu clan in the late 19th century.

Originally built by Shimazu Narioki, it became the primary retirement residence of Shimazu Hisamitsu in the late 1870s. Upon Hisamitsu's death in 1887, a new road was constructed connecting the Kuromon ("Black Gate") of the mansion's grounds to the main National Road, for the purposes of his funeral procession; this road came to be known as "State Funeral Road" (kokusô dôro).

The former site of the Tamazato mansion is today that of Kagoshima Girls' High School.[1]
