Chikatake was a son of [[Chosokabe Kuniyasu|Chôsokabe Kuniyasu]] and a cousin and retainer of [[Chosokabe Motochika|Chôsokabe Motochika]]. He was active in Motochika's wars to conquer Shikoku and in [[1570]] was given [[Tonami castle]] (taken from the [[Ichijo clan|Ichijô]]), the name of which he assumed. In 1584 he was given [[Sogo castle]] in [[Sanuki province]] and the following year, at [[Ueda castle]], attempted resist [[Toyotmi Hideyoshi|Hideyoshi's]] invasion of Shikoku. His eventual fate is unclear, but he may have died around [[1589]].
