The Baba of the Kiso region of [[Shinano province|Shinano]] claimed descent from [[Minamoto Tameyoshi]]. [[Baba Toshishige]] and his father Baba Masatsugu|Masatsugu]] supported the [[Tokugawa clan|Tokugawa]] during the [[Sekigahara Campaign]] ([[1600]]) and served at the [[Siege of Ueda]] castle. Toshishige afterwards served shôgun [[Tokugawa Hidetada]].
