The Arakawa occupied the area of the same name in northern [[Echigo province]]. They served the Nagao and later, [[Uesugi Kenshin]]. [[Arakawa Izu no Kami|Arakawa Izu no Kami Nagazane]] fought at the [[Fourth Battle of Kawanakajima]] ([[1561]]) and [[Arakawa Yajiro|Arakawa Yajirô]] was also noted for his service to the [[Uesugi clan]].
