Tadanari was the eldest son of [[Aoyama Tadakado]] and succeeded his father around [[1570]]. He accompanied [[Tokugawa Hidetada]] while the latter was a youth. Following the [[Sekigahara Campaign]] ([[1600]]) Tadanari was made a daimyô in [[Musashi province]]. His son [[Aoyama Tadayoshi|Tadayoshi]] was to fall out of favor with shôgun [[Tokugawa Iemitsu]], though the family's name would be restored during the time of Tadanari's grandson, [[Aoyama Munetoshi|Munetoshi]].
