He was born in [[1640]] as a son of lord of Odawara han [[Inaba Masanori]]. In [[1663]], he served in the vanguard for Shogun [[Tokugawa Ietsuna|Tokugawa Ietsuna's]] procession to [[Nikko Toshogu|Nikkô Tôshôgû]].
In [[1681]]/4, he was named ''[[soshaban|sôshaban]]'' and concurrently ''[[Jisha bugyo|Jisha bugyô]]'' (Magistrate for Temples and Shrines), before being assigned later that same year to the position of ''Kyoto shoshidai''. He took up his post in [[Kyoto]] the following month, in the 12th month of that year.
Masamichi became head of the family and lord of Odawara domain in [[1683]]/int.5, when his father decided to go into retirement. Two years later, in 1685/9, Masamichi was dismissed from his position as ''Kyoto shoshidai''. In the 12th month of that same year, he was then reassigned from Odawara to Takada han in [[Echigo province]].
