*Okinawan: 北谷菜切 (Chatan naachiri)

Chatan naachiri is a famous and prominent Ryukyuan sword, today designated a National Treasure of Japan. It is held in the collection of the Naha City Museum of History, where it is regularly displayed. Two additional swords, named Jiganemaru and Chiyoganemaru, are also included in the "Ryukyu Royal Sho Family Documents" as National Treasures.

The sword is believed to have been passed down within the Shô royal house for many generations. Its black lacquerware scabbard is inland with mother of pearl, as are the kozuka and kôgai. The hilt is decorated with gold hammered to resemble sharkskin, and other fittings are decorated with Chinese arabesque patterns. The blade itself is believed to date to the 15th century, while the scabbard and mountings are dated to the 16th-17th centuries.
