*''Scientific name: Zosterops japonicus''
*''Japanese'': メジロ ''(mejiro)''
The Japanese white-eye, or ''mejiro'', is a species of small green bird, with white rings around the eyes, commonly seen throughout much of Japan.
In addition to sucking flower nectar, the white-eye also eats small insects and arachnids. They can be found as far south as the [[Yaeyama Islands]], where they are fond of the flowers of ''[[deigo]]'' trees.<ref>Explanatory plaques, Taketomijima Yugafukan (Taketomi Island Visitors' Center) 竹富島ゆがふ館(竹富島ビジターセンター).[https://www.flickr.com/photos/toranosuke/53891112494/sizes/k/]</ref>
