Suma-no-miya was the third daughter of [[Emperor Komei|Emperor Kômei]]; her mother was [[Horikawa Motoko]]. Born on [[1859]]/3/22, she is known for imperial court efforts the following year to have her betrothed to [[Shogun]] [[Tokugawa Iemochi]] in place of the emperor's younger sister [[Kazunomiya]]. She sadly died the following year, at the age of two.
