Kawakami Chikugo Hisakane was a ''[[karo|karô]]'' in service to the [[Shimazu clan]] lords of [[Kagoshima han]] in the late [[Edo period]]. He traveled to Edo with lord of Kagoshima [[Shimazu Narioki]] and his heir [[Shimazu Nariakira]] in [[1850]], accompanying the final [[Ryukyuan embassy to Edo]].
