After serving as a ''gakudôji'' (teenage musician and dancer) on the [[1790]] [[Ryukyuan embassy to Edo]], and as a dancer at court, he was appointed lead envoy on a ''[[nentoshi|nentôshi]]'' annual mission to [[Kagoshima]].
