Toshitsune was the 4th son of [[Maeda Toshiie]]. He was adopted as heir by his elder brother [[Maeda Toshinaga|Toshinaga]] and became [[daimyo|daimyô]] of the [[Maeda clan]] when Toshinaga retired in [[1605]]<!--see Toshinaga's bio-->.
