Originally from [[Himeji han]], he studied under [[Kinoshita Jun'an]], and supported [[Amenomori Hoshu|Amenomori Hôshû]] in critiquing certain of [[Arai Hakuseki|Arai Hakuseki's]] policies (especially regarding the [[Korean embassies to Edo]]).
