The Exposition Universelle opened on April 14, [[1900]], in Paris. Numerous notable Japanese artists, working both in ''[[Nihonga]]'' and ''[[yoga|yôga]]'', as well as in other media, exhibited works at the Fair.

[[Kuroda Seiki|Kuroda Seiki's]] ''yôga'' work "Wisdom, Impression, Sentiment" won a silver prize. Other Japanese artists whose works were exhibited included [[Ogata Gekko|Ogata Gekkô]] and [[Suzuki Shonen|Suzuki Shônen]]. [[Takeuchi Seiho|Takeuchi Seihô]] is also known to have attended.
