::Not to be confused with Tenpuku 天福, an era name for the period from 1233-1234.
*Japanese: 天吹 (tenpuku)

The tenpuku is a type of end-blown flute from the Kagoshima region. It is said to have been particularly well-liked by generals in the armies of the Shimazu clan.

The flute is typically around 30 cm long and has five holes. The mouthpiece is of a form particular to the tenpuku, and distinct from that of other Japanese flutes.

A movement to conserve or revive the instrument and its music has gained strength in recent decades, beginning in the late Shôwa era (1970s or '80s).
