Kagetoshi was a son of [[Asakura Sadakage]] and was adopted by [[Asakura Norikage]]. He served with his adoptive father in a number of campaigns against the ikko and held [[Tsuruga castle]]. He tended to the needs of [[Ashikaga Yoshiaki]] when the latter came to [[Echizen province|Echizen]] after the death of [[Ashikaga Yoshiteru]] in [[1565]].
