Ôtani moved to [[Tokyo]] in [[1910]], and soon acquired the [[Shintomi-za]], Hongô-za, and [[Meiji-za]]. In 1914, he obtained the promotional rights to the [[Kabuki-za]]. He was later awarded the [[Order of Culture]].
