Rin'ami was a prominent ''[[renga]]'' poet and playwright of the late 14th century, who enjoyed a position at the court of [[Shogun]] [[Ashikaga Yoshimitsu]] and influence as a cultural tastemaker.
He is known for composing the text of the two ''[[kusemai]]'' dance-dramas ''Tôgoku kudari'' and ''Saikoku kudari'', known collectively as ''[[Kaido kudari|Kaidô kudari]]''. Both were written specifically for the [[Yamato sarugaku|Yamato ''sarugaku'']] repertoire, with music by [[Kan'ami]].
