Yasunaga was a son of [[Toda Tadashige|Toda Danjô Tadashige]]. He married an adopted daughter of [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]] (the daughter of [[Hisamatsu Toshikatsu]]) and was allowed to assume the name 'Matsudaira'.
