Yoshizumi was the son of [[Ashikaga Masatomo]] and fled to [[Suruga province|Suruga]] after the death of his father in [[1491]]. He was escorted back to [[Kyoto]] by [[Imagawa Ujichika]] in [[1494]] and was named the 11th Ashikaga shôgun by [[Hosokawa Masamoto]], who was assassinated in [[1507]]. When [[Ouchi Yoshioki|Oûchi Yoshioki]] marched on Kyoto, Yoshizumi abdicated ([[1508]]).
