The Toda family of [[Mikawa province]] were descended from [[Fujiwara Sanefusa]] (d.[[1224]]). Originally from [[Omi province|Ômi province]], they established themselves in Mikawa in the early [[Sengoku Period]], with [[Toda Munemitsu]] building [[Tawara castle]] between [[1492]]-[[1501]]. They came to serve the [[Matsudaira clan|Matsudaira]] ([[Tokugawa clan|Tokugawa]]) and would pass into the [[Edo Period]] as [[daimyo|daimyô]].
