Akiyasu was the son of [[Numata Yasuteru|Numata Kôzuke no suke Yasuteru]] and held [[Numata castle]] in [[Kozuke province|Kôzuke]] for the Uesugi. He favored his youngest son Kageyoshi to succeed him, to the point, it would seem, of having his eldest son Tomoyasu murdered in [[1569]]. This created such strife within the [[Numata clan|Numata family]] that Akiyasu was forced to flee to [[Aizu province|Aizu]], where he died.
