James Clavell's Shogun is set in the year [[1600]] A.D. An Englishman named John Blackthorne, who is Pilot-Major of the English ship ''Erasmus'', is wrecked on the coast of [[Japan]]. He is rescued by Japanese locals and subsequently arrested by the fief's [[samurai]], "Omi-san". Eventually he and his crew are released into the custody of the [[daimyo]] "Yabu-san", who in turn takes them to the senior warlord "Toranaga".
