The Honda of [[Satsuma province]] claimed descent from Kammu Heishi's 7th son. Originally from the eastern provinces, they came to serve the [[Shimazu clan|Shimazu]] family when that clan was established at the end of the 12th Century. They were not directly connected to the [[Honda clan (Mikawa)|Honda of Mikawa Province]], although some relation has been suggested.
