He commanded the defenses at Kobata during the [[Komaki Campaign]] ([[1584]]) and in [[1587]] was sent to join the [[Toyotomi clan|Toyotomi]] army in its invasion of [[Kyushu]]. There he distinguished himself at the brief battle for [[Ganjaku castle]] in [[Buzen province]].
