Shirao Kunihashira was a kokugaku scholar from Satsuma han.

A retainer to the Shimazu clan, he served as Magistrate of Records (kiroku bugyô) and monogashira for the domain. In Edo, he studied under Hanawa Hokiichi and Murata Harumi.

Shirao worked with Sô Senshun, at the orders of daimyô Shimazu Shigehide, to produce a volume on agriculture and other subjects entitled Seikei zusetsu.

He died on 1821/2/15, and is buried just outside the Shimazu clan cemetery at Fukushô-ji, in Kagoshima City.
