Yoron gusuku

  • Japanese: 与論城 (Yoron gusuku)

Yoron gusuku was a 15th century gusuku (fortress, elite residence, and sacred site) located atop a hill some 94 meters above sea level, at the southern tip of Yoronjima, an island located in the Amami Islands, north of Okinawa Island. Nothing remains of the gusuku structures today except the stone walls. Two Shinto shrines, Tokonushi Shrine and a branch of Kotohira Shrine, are today located on the site.
