Uetsuki family

  • Japanese: 上月家 (Uetsuki ke)

The Uetsuki family were middle-ranking retainers of the Date clan of Uwajima domain (Iyo province). As of the 1810s, they enjoyed a stipend of 155 koku, 9 to, 6 masu.

They claimed descent from the Murakami Genji via the Akamatsu clan who held Kôzuki castle in Harima province. The first to settle in Iyo province was Uetsuki Shingohei, who in 1713 became an adopted heir of the second son of Takahashi Heishôchô, a retainer of Hori Naotoshi of Muramatsu in Echigo province.

A pair of scroll paintings by 6th Edo period family head Uetsuki Gyôkei are held in the Kagoshima University Library; they depict a street procession performed by the 1850 Ryukyuan embassy to Edo and several related subjects.
