Sôreki was a Ryukyuan scholar-aristocrat known for his prodigious calligraphy abilities.

He served as a member of tribute missions to China on several occasions, as well as on at least one Ryukyuan mission to Edo, serving as shokanshi (secretary) alongside Tei Junsoku in 1714, a mission sent in honor of King Shô Kei.

He later changed his name from Sôreki to Sôshin.
