Shô Chôshô was a [[scholar-aristocracy of Ryukyu|Ryukyuan scholar-aristocrat]] who served as a ''[[gakudoji|gakudôji]]'' (musician/dancer) on the [[1842]] [[Ryukyuan embassy to Edo]], and as ''gakushi'' (master musician) on the [[1850]] mission. He was appointed to the latter on [[1848]]/9/1, and was at the same time promoted in rank, and granted the privilege of wearing a yellow [[hachimaki|court cap]].<br />
