Shantou

  • Other Names: Swatow

Shantou is a port in China's Guangdong province, also historically known in many Western references as "Swatow," deriving from an early modern Dutch transliteration of the city's name. A number of arts and styles associated with the city, including Swatow wares ceramics (actually produced in Fujian province), and a style of fan known as the Swatow fan, are thus named in such a fashion.
