The Okinawa Times is one of the two most prominent newspapers published in Okinawa prefecture, alongside the older Ryûkyû Shimpô.

The Times was founded in 1948 by Toyohira Ryôken, among others. The first issue was published on July 1, 1948. Toyohira later went on to serve for a period as president of the company.
