Lamqua was a Chinese oil painter active in Canton circa 1825 to 1860. He was one of the most prominent early Chinese oil painters, and has been described as "the most celebrated Chinese painter in the English style in Canton in the 19th century."[1]
Though he never traveled to the West himself, a number of Lamqua's works were shown at the Royal Academy in London in 1835 and at institutions in Philadelphia and Boston in 1851.[1]
