Kojima Shikanosuke was the leader of Onoji village in Tama district, Musashi province. He practiced Tennen Rishin Ryu from Kondo Shusuke, Kondo Isami and Kondo Isami learned Chinese poetry from him. He had a dojo in his residence and Hijikata Toshizo, Okita Soji came to teach pupils in the region often.

After the Meiji Restoration, he and Sato Hikogoro made an effort for honorary recovery of the Shinsengumi.

1888, A memorial monument of Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizo "Junsetsu Ryoyu Hi" was erected in the Takahata Kongo-ji temple.
