Ito Sukeyuki

  • Japanese: 伊東祐亨 (Itou Sukeyuki)

Itô Sukeyuki was an early leader of the Satsuma han navy.

Itô was a member of Shimazu Hisamitsu's entourage in 1862 when the Namamugi Incident took place. When the Royal Navy attacked Kagoshima in response to that incident, Itô was among those manning the coastal defenses at Gionnosu.

After formally training under Katsu Kaishû at the Imperial Navy Institute, and at the Egawa private academy, Itô served as general commander of Japanese naval forces in the Sino-Japanese War.
