Iesato joined the Roshigumi with Negishi Yuzan in 1863 and stayed in Kyoto with other 23 members. After the Roshigumi returned to Edo, he and Tonouchi Yoshio were ordered to be in charge of this party by Udono Kyuo. However they lost for factional strife and Tonouchi was assassinated. Iesato ran away to Osaka but was found by Serizawa Kamo and he was forced to commit Seppuku.
