Hanmotsu

  • Japanese: 判物 (hanmotsu)

A formal document issued by the Muromachi or Tokugawa shogunate, formally affirming a shugo or daimyô in his territory. The document bore the kaô (cipher/signature) of the lord receiving the territory.
