Gesshô, also known as Ninkô, was a Buddhist monk in close association with Saigô Takamori and others in the mid-to-late 1850s. On 1858/11/19, he and Takamori attempted to commit suicide together by drowning themselves in Kinkô Bay (in or near Kagoshima City); Saigô survived, but Gesshô did not. He was posthumously granted the Senior Fourth Rank.
