The Fukubara were descended from a younger son of [[Mori Motoharu|Môri Motoharu]] (head of the [[Mori clan|Môri]] in the mid-late 14th Century). During the Sengoku Period they became one of the most influential of the Môri retainer houses, with three generations holding a special place in the Môri heirarchy: [[Fukubara Sadatoshi]], [[Fukubara Motoyoshi]], and [[Fukubara Hirotoshi]].
