Chima no kata was a concubine of [[Shimazu Shigehide]], the 25th Lord of [[Satsuma han]], and is perhaps best known as the great-grandmother of the famous [[Atsuhime]].
Chima no kata was the eldest daughter of the [[kuge|court noble]] [[Tsutsumi Toshinaga]], and the grandmother of [[Shimazu Tadatake]], father of Atsuhime.
She is buried at the [[Tsutsumi family]] [[bodaiji|family temple]] of [[Shojoke-in|Shôjôke-in]], on Teramachi-dôri in [[Kyoto]].
