• The first Chinese investiture envoys since the fall of the Ming Dynasty arrive in Ryûkyû. The king of Ryûkyû, and his officials, are granted permission to maintain Ming ceremonial costume; they are not obligated to adopt Qing costume. The post of ukwanshin bugyô (Magistrate of Receiving Investiture Envoys) is established.
• Dutch East India Company trading post in Ayutthaya is closed.
• The nails and brackets of the wooden Kyôto Daibutsu of Hôkô-ji are melted down, yielding 40 million kammon worth of metal.
• An earthquake strikes the Kansai region, severely damaging many of the structures at Nijô castle.
• Emperor Go-Sai abdicates in favor of Emperor Reigen.
• Nagasaki suffers from a major fire.
• The Ryûkyû court stops using Ming-style buzi status badges.
• Shogun Tokugawa Ietsuna reissues the Buke Shohatto proclamations.
• Shimazu Ryûkyû Gunseiki, a gunkimono account of the 1609 invasion of Ryûkyû, is compiled.
• The shogunate prohibits the tsuji ban'ya guardsmen from engaging in commercial activities.
