Kashima is known as the birth place of Japanese martial arts. Tsukahara Bokuden learned Kashima Chuko Ryu from his father, Katori Shinto Ryu from his step-father, and created Kashima Shinto Ryu. There are 120 techniques handed down to the present. However the famous Ichi no Tachi remains mystery.
